Comprehensive care that treats the whole you, not just your teeth. Your health, your comfort, your smile, all in one place.
If you’ve been searching for a dentist in San Diego, CA who truly listens, you’ve found the right place. At Emerald Isle Dental Studio, Dr. Geraldine O’Mara, DDS leads a practice built on one simple belief: you deserve to feel comfortable, respected, and cared for every time you walk through the door. Routine cleanings, cosmetic dentistry, or a dental concern that’s been worrying you for a while, this is a practice where you’ll never feel rushed or judged. Dr. O’Mara takes a whole-body approach to dentistry, treating not just your teeth but your overall health and well-being. This is a place where anxious patients finally feel at ease, and where your smile goals actually matter.

Dr. Geraldine O’Mara, DDS founded Emerald Isle Dental Studio with a clear purpose: to help patients across San Diego live healthier, more confident lives through care that goes beyond the mouth. Our mission is rooted in the mouth-body connection, the idea that your oral health directly impacts your overall wellness. That’s why every appointment starts with listening. Dr. O’Mara hears out your concerns, explains your options clearly, and builds a treatment plan that makes sense for your life. Our dentist delivers clinical excellence without the pressure, judgment, or impersonal experience that keeps so many people from getting the dental care they need and deserve.
We believe the best dental experience is one where you leave feeling better informed, more confident, and genuinely cared for. Here is how we deliver that.

At our practice, your appointment isn’t shared. Dr. O’Mara is with you fully, not splitting her focus across other patients in other rooms. This one-patient-at-a-time model means your visit moves at your pace. You have real time to ask questions to our dentist, understand your options, and make decisions you feel confident about. That’s the kind of patient care that actually builds lasting trust.

Dental anxiety is more common than most people realize, and it keeps millions of adults from getting the oral health care they need. Our practice was built with those patients in mind. The calm environment and Dr. O’Mara’s naturally empathetic, non-judgmental style work together to make every visit easier. For patients who need a little extra support, oral conscious sedation is available. You stay relaxed and aware throughout, making it a practical option for those who struggle most with dental treatment. Many patients who once put off seeing a dentist for years find they can finally keep up with their care here.

There’s nothing more frustrating than needing a crown and being told to come back weeks later wearing a temporary. With two CEREC mills in-house, our practice can design, fabricate, and place a permanent crown or bridge in a single appointment. Our dentist uses CBCT 3D imaging to capture a comprehensive view of your teeth, jaw, and surrounding structures. Combined with digital X-rays and digital impressions, diagnostics are more precise and treatment planning more accurate. This is what modern dentistry looks like.

Our dentist serves patients of all ages across Bay Ho, La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Clairemont, and surrounding San Diego communities, offering everything from routine cleanings and preventive exams to dental implants, Invisalign, full mouth rehabilitation, and prosthodontic care.
Our associate prosthodontist handles complex restorative cases, including gum disease treatment, jaw and TMJ concerns, care following traumatic oral injuries, and oral appliances for snoring and sleep apnea, so you won’t need a referral for advanced care. Families can count on the same trusted dental team for every member, and whatever your starting point, we’ll build a treatment plan that fits your needs and makes sense for your long-term health.

If you’ve ever wanted to improve the appearance of your smile but weren’t sure where to start, cosmetic dentistry at our practice is more accessible than you might think. Teeth whitening, dental veneers, and composite bonding can each address specific concerns, while a full smile makeover brings multiple treatments together for a comprehensive transformation.
What makes our approach unique is the preview process: using computer imaging, 3D models, and temporary trial restorations, you can actually see what your new smile will look like before any permanent changes are made. There’s no guessing and no surprises, just a clear picture of what’s possible and a plan you feel genuinely good about.

When a tooth is too damaged for a simple filling, or when a gap is left behind by a missing tooth, porcelain crowns and bridges offer a natural-looking solution. Our dentist designs restorations that blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth, so no one has to know you had any work done.
Porcelain matches the color and light-reflecting quality of enamel better than most other materials. That’s what makes it such a popular choice for front and back teeth alike.
Leaving a damaged or missing tooth untreated causes problems that go beyond appearance. Nearby teeth shift out of place, your bite changes, and extra stress falls on the teeth that remain. Over time, this leads to wear, pain, and even bone loss in the jaw.
Crowns and bridges stop that chain reaction before it starts. A crown covers and protects a weakened tooth. A bridge fills the space where a tooth is gone, anchoring to the teeth on either side.
Here’s when our dentist typically recommends porcelain crowns and bridges:
Traditional crowns meant two appointments, a temporary crown, and weeks of waiting. At Emerald Isle Dental Studio, we use CEREC technology to design, mill, and place your crown in a single visit. No temporaries. No second trip. No impressions that make you gag.
Our CEREC mills create precise porcelain restorations right here in our practice. We also use CBCT 3D imaging to plan your treatment with accuracy before we ever touch a tooth.
Same-day dentistry benefits patients in several key ways:
A well-made crown or bridge should feel completely natural with no discomfort and no second-guessing, just a tooth that works. Our dentist reviews what’s going on, lays out your options clearly, and works with you to find the right solution for your smile.
Most people think of a cleaning as a quick polish and a reminder to floss. But a thorough dental exam and cleaning does a lot more than that. It’s how small problems get caught before they grow into bigger ones, and how your mouth stays connected to the rest of your health.
Our dentist uses digital X-rays and CBCT 3D imaging during exams to see what the naked eye can’t. That means a more complete picture of what’s happening with your teeth, gums, and jaw, all in one visit.
Gum disease, tooth decay, and bone loss rarely hurt at first. By the time something feels wrong, the damage is usually well underway. That’s the risk of putting off regular exams and cleanings because problems grow in the background while everything feels fine.
Catching issues early almost always means simpler, less invasive treatment. A small cavity found at a routine visit is a filling. The same cavity found a year later might need a crown. Staying consistent with your care keeps your options open.
Watch for these common signs that it’s time to see a dentist:
We don’t rush first appointments. Your initial visit includes a comprehensive exam, digital X-rays, a cleaning when appropriate, and real time set aside to talk through your dental goals. Our dentist wants to understand your full health picture, not just what’s happening in your mouth today.
We take a one-patient-at-a-time approach. That means when you’re in the chair, you have our full attention. No rotating between rooms. No hurried explanations. Just focused, unhurried care at every step.
Here’s what your first visit typically covers:
Your mouth tells us a lot about your overall health, and a routine visit is the easiest way to stay ahead of problems before they grow. No judgment if it’s been a while. Just an honest look at where things stand and a clear path forward for your health.
Ask most people what they think about root canals and you’ll hear the same thing: painful, scary, something to avoid. The truth is, that reputation is outdated. Modern root canal treatment is closer to getting a filling than anything dramatic, and it’s one of the most effective ways to save a tooth that would otherwise need to come out.
The real discomfort comes from the infection itself, not the treatment. A root canal clears that infection, relieves the pressure, and gives your tooth a real chance at staying put for years to come.
Nothing works quite like your original tooth. It fits your bite, supports your jaw, and keeps neighboring teeth in place. Once a tooth is gone, the surrounding bone starts to shrink, and nearby teeth gradually shift toward the gap. That chain reaction creates new problems that take more time to fix.
Root canal treatment stops that from happening. By removing the infected pulp inside the tooth and sealing it off, our dentist preserves the outer structure so the tooth can keep doing its job. A crown typically follows to protect and restore full function.
Here’s when a root canal is usually the right call:
A lot of people who walk through our door haven’t been to a dental practice in years, sometimes because of a past experience that left them anxious or discouraged. At every appointment, we slow down, explain what’s happening at each step, and never push you toward treatment you’re not ready for.
For patients who need extra support, oral conscious sedation is available. This isn’t general anesthesia. You stay awake and responsive but relaxed enough to get through the visit without distress. Our one-patient-at-a-time approach means our dentist is focused entirely on you, not splitting attention across multiple rooms.
What you can count on during your visit:
Tooth pain that lingers isn’t something to wait out. The sooner we take a look, the more options you have. Same-day appointments are available at 858.270.0682 when you need to be seen quickly.
Clear aligners have changed what orthodontic treatment looks and feels like. Invisalign uses a series of nearly invisible polyurethane trays that gradually shift your teeth into alignment with no brackets, no wires, and no adjustments that leave your mouth sore for days. For adults and teens who want results without the look of traditional braces, it’s a genuinely different experience.
Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks before moving to the next in the series. The minimum recommended wear time is 20 hours per day, which leaves room to remove them for meals, social occasions, and your daily oral hygiene routine.
Metal braces get the job done, but they come with trade-offs that add up quickly. Food restrictions, difficulty cleaning around brackets, and visible hardware are all part of the deal. Clear aligners sidestep most of those frustrations without compromising on results.
Because the trays are fully removable, brushing and flossing stay simple during treatment. There’s no maneuvering around wires or worrying about what you eat. Patients who clench or grind their teeth at night get an added benefit because the aligners act as a thin protective guard that limits wear on the enamel.
Here’s what sets Invisalign apart from metal braces:
Invisalign has expanded well beyond adult orthodontics. The teen-specific version includes two features designed around how younger patients’ mouths are still developing. Eruption tabs hold space open for molars that haven’t fully come in yet. Compliance indicators are built directly into the aligner material and fade with wear, providing a simple way to confirm the trays are being worn as directed.
At Emerald Isle Dental Studio, we welcome teens and adults looking for a discreet path to a straighter smile. Our dentist will walk you through whether Invisalign is the right fit based on your alignment needs, since some cases are still better suited for traditional orthodontics.
What the teen version of Invisalign includes:
Thinking about Invisalign but not sure where to start? Come in with your questions and our dentist will map out exactly what treatment would look like for you, how long it takes, and what to expect at every stage.
Braces used to mean years of metal brackets, tightening appointments, and a mouth full of hardware that made eating and cleaning a challenge. Orthodontic treatment has come a long way since then. Today, clear aligner technology moves teeth using the same controlled forces as traditional braces, just with thin, flexible plastic trays that most people around you will never notice.
At our practice, orthodontic care centers around Invisalign® clear aligners. Using specialized computer software, our dentist maps out your full treatment plan from start to finish, breaking the movement into precise stages that guide your teeth gradually into proper alignment.
Misaligned teeth create issues that affect function just as much as aesthetics. Crowding makes it harder to clean between teeth, which raises the risk of decay and gum disease over time. An uneven bite puts unequal stress on certain teeth and jaw joints, leading to wear and discomfort that builds slowly.
Orthodontic treatment addresses both sides of that equation. When your teeth fit together the way they should, chewing is more efficient, cleaning is more effective, and the long-term health of your mouth improves. Our dentist looks at the full picture, not just how your smile looks, but how it functions.
Here’s how straighter teeth support your overall oral health:
Clear aligners have expanded significantly in what they can treat. Many bite issues and alignment problems that once required metal braces can now be corrected with Invisalign. That said, certain complex cases are still better suited for traditional orthodontics, and our team will be straightforward with you about which path makes more sense for your specific situation.
Emerald Isle Dental Studio offers Invisalign for both adults and teens. The teen version includes eruption tabs that hold space for molars still coming in, along with compliance indicators built into the tray material that fade with wear, a practical way to confirm aligners are being worn the recommended 20 hours per day.
Factors our dentist considers when recommending orthodontic treatment:
Small shifts become bigger corrections the longer they go unaddressed, so if alignment has been on your mind, now is a good time to act. Book an orthodontic evaluation with us and we’ll show you exactly what a straighter bite could look like for you.
Your smile is personal. What looks right to one person might not be what someone else has in mind at all. Some patients want a dramatically transformed look, uniform, bright, and symmetrical. Others prefer something subtler that still feels like them. Cosmetic dentistry works because it’s flexible enough to meet both.
We start every cosmetic conversation by listening. Before any plan is made or treatment discussed, our dentist takes time to understand what you’d like to change, what you’ve always disliked, and what a better smile would mean for your day-to-day confidence.
A good cosmetic outcome doesn’t start in the dental chair. It starts with a thorough exam. Any underlying conditions that could affect your results need to be addressed first. Discoloration caused by an untreated dental issue, for example, won’t respond to whitening the way healthy teeth do. Getting the foundation right is what makes cosmetic results last.
From there, the planning process becomes collaborative between you and our dentist. Computer imaging, 3D models, and temporary trial restorations let you see and feel what your new smile will look like before anything permanent is done. That preview step takes the guesswork out of a decision that’s meant to stick around for years.
Cosmetic treatments we offer at Emerald Isle Dental Studio include:
Cosmetic dental work is an investment, and the materials and methods our dentist chooses directly affect how long that investment performs. Porcelain reflects light the way enamel does, which is part of why it holds up visually even years after placement. Patients who drink a lot of red wine or dark beverages often find veneers maintain their appearance better than whitening treatments alone.
Our practice is also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a professional recognition that reflects our commitment to staying current in this area of care. Cosmetic dentistry is one of the fastest-growing areas of the field, and technique and materials continue to improve.
What makes cosmetic results last:
Change starts with knowing what you want and finding a team willing to work toward it with you. Bring that vision to your first visit and we’ll take the time to understand it, evaluate your smile, and map out a plan that brings it to life. No pressure, no hard sell, just an honest look at what’s possible and what makes sense for you.

Traditional dental X-rays show a flat, two-dimensional image. CBCT imaging captures a full three-dimensional view of your teeth, jaw, bone density, and surrounding structures in a single scan. This level of detail significantly improves diagnostic accuracy for treatments like dental implants, root canal treatment, and complex extractions, and it allows our dentist to plan procedures with a level of precision that flat imaging simply cannot provide.
We blend modern technology with a warm, personal approach. Dr. O’Mara takes time to understand each patient’s needs, offers conservative treatment planning, and creates a comfortable experience — especially for those who feel anxious at the dentist.
